Window tint · shade guide

How dark should you go?

Film is rated by the share of light it lets through. A lower number means darker glass. Pick a shade for the front and rear windows to see the difference.

Front 70% Rear 20%
Front side windows

Ontario: front side windows can't hide the inside of the car. Vehicles built in 2017 or later need 70% or lighter to pass a safety certificate.

Rear side windows and back glass

No limit in Ontario for the rear side windows and back glass, as long as you have both side mirrors.

20% rear. Dark from outside and still easy to see out of. A common choice for rear windows.

Questions we get asked

How dark can I tint my windows in Ontario?

Ontario's Highway Traffic Act doesn't set a percentage. It says the windshield and the windows beside the driver can't be tinted so dark that they substantially hide the inside of the car, and police can ticket for it.

For vehicles built in 2017 or later, the front side windows need at least 70% light transmission to pass a Safety Standards Certificate when the vehicle is sold. There is no limit on the rear side windows or the back glass, as long as you have both side mirrors.

We'll help you pick shades that fit your vehicle and how you use it.

How much will it cost?

It depends on the vehicle, the film or package, and how much of the car you want covered. Send the year, make and model and we’ll reply with an exact price, not a range.

How long will you need my vehicle?

Window tint is usually done within the day. Paint protection film and ceramic coating take longer, depending on coverage. We confirm timing when we book you in, and overnight drop-off is available.

Which films and coatings do you use?

XPEL: PRIME window film, XPEL paint protection film and XPEL Fusion Plus ceramic coating. Window film comes in four grades, from colour-stable dyed to nano-ceramic.

What does the warranty cover?

Window film has a lifetime warranty and XPEL paint protection film has a 10-year warranty. We go through what’s covered for your package when you pick up your vehicle.

Paint protection film or ceramic coating?

Film is a physical layer that stops rock chips and scratches. A ceramic coating doesn’t stop chips; it makes paint slick, glossy and easier to clean. Many owners put film on the front of the car and coat everything, including the film.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Ask about flexible payment options when we send your price.
